The Lititz Fire Co. is pleased to announce that we have placed a new pumper in service. This pumper completes a reorganization plan of our apparatus fleet that began in 2002.
Last December the Lititz Fire Company awarded a contract to Seagrave Fire Apparatus of Clintonville, Wisconsin. Founded in 1881, Seagrave is the oldest continuous manufacturer of fire apparatus in North America. As a single source manufacturer, Seagrave integrates design, construction and assembly all under one roof. The result is a better performing, longer lasting product from bumper to bumper. Seagrave's life-saving "safety cage" cab designs have also earned them an unmatched reputation for dependability under the toughest of conditions.
In 2002, the Lititz Fire Co. began an analysis of services it provides, the needs of our rapidly expanding community, and the capabilities of the existing apparatus fleet. At the time, the Fire Co. was operating a 75' ladder truck and two (2) rescue-pumpers. Both of the rescue-pumpers were large vehicles because they carried equipment for rescue situations as well as all the necessary equipment for fire suppression.
The final recommendation of the committee was that the Fire Co. replaces its 20 year old 75' ladder truck with a 100' foot ladder truck. The longer ladder would be better suited to reach homes that are being built with larger setbacks from the road, as well as taller buildings that were being built. It was also recommended that the Fire Co. replace the two (2) rescue-pumpers with a rescue truck dedicated to carrying all the rescue equipment and a pumper truck dedicated to fire suppression. This would allow of each these vehicles to be smaller in size, as well as eliminating one fire pump, which are costly to maintain and repair. The two (2) smaller vehicles will also result in lower maintenance costs and provide greater maneuverability on the tight streets and alleys of Lititz.
In 2005 the Fire Co. took delivery of an American LaFrance, 100' mid-mount tower truck. In 2007, the Fire Co. took delivery of a Rescue 1 rescue truck. The Fire Co. has now taken delivery of the 2009 Seagrave 1500 GPM pumper and officially placed the pumper in service on September 22, 2009. |
